Now that you know what CBD is (if not, read here) we’re going discuss the why.

So why is CBD all the rage lately? Is it really a “miracle drug” like some are saying? Or is it just the newest gimmick?

In 2018, the FDA approved the very first prescription CBD product for treating epilepsy. You might be thinking just how new and innovative this sounds, but cannabis has actually been used to treat various ailments for thousands of years.

So what took so long for us to start recognizing the benefits of cannabis, including both CBD and marijuana? That’s a story for another day, but the fact is things are changing for the better!

Clinical studies

The FDA-approved version obviously has some legitimacy, but what about all the other CBD products you can buy online, including Nuvamed?

There have been dozens of clinical studies over the past 20 years on the effectiveness of CBD. Nearly all have found the compound possesses some very promising characteristics. Lab studies on mammals have found that CBD appears beneficial in treating a variety of issues including pain, anxiety, depression, cancer, heart disease, diabetes, insomnia, and more.

Tests on human subjects have largely affirmed the findings from those conducted on animals. Many more experiments and studies are needed to better understand CBD and its effectiveness in medical treatment, but these early scientific findings are paving the way.

2018 Farm Bill

The passing of the 2018 Farm Bill in December 2018 has made it easier for scientists to engage in more human testing with CBD. Previously CBD was classified as a Schedule 1 substance (along with marijuana) in the Controlled Substance Act (CSA).

Due to that designation, working with CBD, even for legitimate scientific testing, was essentially prohibited. That classification meant that there were not any recognized benefits to CBD – imagine that? The 2018 Farm Bill removed CBD from the CSA, a major step in the right direction for the future of CBD.

While official clinical studies with medical professionals are vital to the advancement of CBD in medicine, there is also mounting anecdotal evidence of CBD’s benefits. All types of people from athletes to CEO’s grandmothers swear by using CBD. Many even boast the benefits of the compound for their pets! (Learn more about how CBD may benefit your pet).

It’s worth mentioning that some users report feeling none of the intended affects from CBD. It appears that the compound might not work for everybody in the same way. We encourage you to consult with your medical physician about if CBD might be right for you.
